To protect and preserve marine environment and its living marine resources.

Overview

Overarching objectives are very important because they include or influence many things. The objectives are set to be transversal and to be applied whenever possible in all strategic themes. At this moment, they are:

square blue 1  Scientific study and research

square blue 1  Technological development and innovation

square blue 1  Business development activities: promoting blue and circular economy

Education

To improve knowledge and develop skills, a process of teaching, training and learning must be set. That process is education. Especially with children, education as a subject of how to teach is of paramount importance. An efficient methodology must be implemented, and improved by learning lessons in every occasion.

Our target in Corvo Island are circa 45 children at school, from 6 to 18 years old, and resident adults. Total local population are numbered close to 400.

Education transforms lives and is at the heart of the Centre’s mission.

Through education we aim to:

square blue 1  Inform and raise awareness of what is happening on a global scale concerning the state of our oceans, seas and marine resources, and demonstrate how intertwined the structural components of the very complex functional world natural processes are related, interdepended and influence one another.

square blue 1  Inform and raise awareness about the current global problematic concerning our natural world, pinpointing the urgency to cope with the very pressing and alarming issues that define perils and threats in the near future.

square blue 1  Raise consciousness that global issues must also be responsibly addressed on a local scale by all humans on Earth.

square blue 1  Teach how the planetary and thermodynamic equilibrium set by the physical reciprocity between the Sun, Moon and Earth are responsible for the stability of our climate and the favourable conditions for the existence of the biosphere.

square blue 1  Teach how all life on Earth depends critically on the existence of healthy and resilient ecosystems and habitats whereby all species can exist in balance with each other and with the physical and chemical natural resources available, creating altogether the web of life.

square blue 1  To teach how human civilization have been gravelly interfering with the web of life and the use of natural resources and demonstrate what sustainable development is, its importance, and how it must be implemented.

square blue 1  Stimulate scientific curiosity and use the natural resources available on Corvo Island as a starting point and guide tell our story in this planet, and how collectively we can promote a more healthy, resilient and sustainable world.

square blue 1  Teach how our natural heritage, including the landscape, is an invaluable asset to civilization and the ultimate support of life on this planet which must so be defended, protected and preserved in all its aspects and dimensions, and taking special regard and focus on Corvo Island as a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

square blue 1  Teach and raise awareness about the importance of scientific research and development on furthering our understanding of our natural world and its direct relation to foster blue and circular economy for the betterment of our lives and in order to live in harmony with nature.

Through education we need to address and highlight the following major problems facing society today:

square blue 1  The state of the world and the current accelerating process of globalisation and environmental degradation have posed humanity with the enormous challenge and responsibility to implement the philosophy
